Friday, 8pm Karl Dietel, Annandale NJ
The cd contains fourteen tightly written, catchy tunes with thoughtful lyrics. “The songs are mostly about the wonderful people I've met during my crazy life- or is that, the crazy people I've met during my wonderful life!” he says from his home base in Jersey. Dietel’s piano work recalls the Turnstiles/Stranger era of Billy Joel, and his melodies and structures reflect today’s anxious society. Recorded in 4 different studios in the Garden State, mixed in L.A. by Grammy Award winning engineer Carter Humphrey (Rod Stewart), and mastered in Times Square by Grammy Award winner Scott Hull (Steely Dan), the music is hopeful, reflective and honest. There is stellar playing throughout from various backing musicians mostly culled from the central Jersey session pool, and "She Said" features Sean Kelly's soaring vocal chorus. Themes of sexual politics and the constant search for redemption are delivered in harmonies and hooks that stay with you from the first listen. A dose of east-coast sarcasm keeps it flowing and the result is an exciting debut from a versatile, seasoned musician! Karl Dietel is :Karl Dietel - keyboards and vocals Links
